A Meeting Place Rodina neighborhood center has officially opened at 5 Izmailovsky Val, marking the 25th completed venue in the Moscow cinema modernization program led by development company ADG group.
The center revitalizes the historic Rodina cinema, a post-constructivist building originally designed by architects Viktor Kalmykov and Yakov Kornfeld in 1938. Now a protected cultural heritage site, the building had seen its original character eroded by numerous renovations over the years, followed by a devastating fire in 2003 that destroyed much of its historical decor.
ADG group undertook a scrupulous restoration to return the building to its former glory. The project involved restoring the original facades and meticulously recreating interior details, including the stair railings and the first-floor foyer. Through painstaking effort, restorers brought back the coffered ceilings with their columns to life and repaired the famous facade fresco, replacing its broken tiles.
The modernized neighborhood center spans 6,269 square meters, including open galleries and a functional rooftop. The facility features three above-ground floors, one underground level, and an operational roof for warm-weather events. A key focus of the restoration was ensuring accessibility; all interior spaces were adapted to modern barrier-free standards, and two new elevators were installed, one providing direct access to a summer terrace on the roof.
