Now in its 25th year, the competition aims to do more than simply crown a winner. Its true purpose is to showcase the scale of collaboration between architects, designers, and builders who shape Moscow’s evolving identity day after day.
A Meeting Place Vityaz neighborhood center has made the shortlist for the prestigious city award in the category "Best Construction Project for Cultural and Educational Facilities." For us, this recognition is a powerful affirmation that we are on the right track.
A Meeting Place Vityaz opened its doors on February 20, 2025. It is the 23rd facility developed as part of the program to revitalize former Soviet-era cinemas, led by the developer ADG group.
The story of Vityaz began in 1971, when the cinema was named after the ship that carried the Russian ethnographer Nicholas Miklouho-Maclay on his expedition to New Guinea. During the renovation, the historic signage was meticulously restored using 3D scanning technology and recreated with contemporary materials. The original name lives on — but the venue itself has been given a bold new identity.
With a total area of 17,610 square meters, the center spans three above-ground floors and one below ground. The architectural concept was developed by world-renowned architect Amanda Levete, with local adaptation by Russian designers. The building meets BREEAM environmental standards, ensuring minimal ecological impact. Its central glass facade floods the interiors with natural light, creating a sense of openness, while the internal layout follows universal design principles for barrier-free accessibility.
A standout feature is the open rooftop terrace, which has quickly become a local favorite. The center has established itself as a community hub, especially popular with the area’s many students. With a wide range of facilities — from cultural events to sports and entertainment — it offers everything needed for quality leisure and an active lifestyle.
